Dental Implantology

Our challenge is to restore fixed 'natural' dentition on implants to edentulous patients.

Choose implantology to regain your smile

Why choose implant rehabilitation?

  • Because with implants, you can smile with confidence and have your own teeth! The result is a fixed smile on implants that looks practically indistinguishable from natural teeth
  • Because our decades of experience, and the level of research reached by modern implantology, allows us to operate with high safety standards for the patient, achieving lasting and stable aesthetic and functional results over time
  • Because whether it’s a full implant-supported denture or a single-tooth implant, the advantages are evident in terms of aesthetics and therefore psychological health, as well as functionality. The correct facial shape is preserved, and natural teeth are kept healthy
  • Because before every intervention, we carefully verify your general medical history and the health of your bone and gum
  • Because we design the prosthesis “craftsmanship” with state-of-the-art machinery in collaboration with our partner dental laboratory
  • Because we use safe and high-quality materials and implants, produced by global industry leaders and selected by our implantologist specifically for your case. You will be given an implant passport that guarantees the work done at an international level
  • Because we schedule regular post-implant checks and specific hygiene sessions in which we teach the correct techniques for at-home hygiene
  • Because you can have your old smile back!

Today, implantology is the optimal technique for replacing missing teeth in most cases in adult patients of all ages, with the advantages of avoiding the inconveniences of using mobile prosthesis (dentures and removable prostheses), preserving the health of healthy natural teeth (instead of filing and reducing them in the case of bridges), and ensuring complete stability.

The visit to the implants
The implant visit is a critical moment for establishing an alliance in the relationship between doctor and patient, evaluating expectations, and the real state of general health and the patient’s mouth. An evaluation of dental occlusion will be performed through a gnathological analysis. The existence of cavities, gingivitis, or periodontitis, which will necessarily need to be treated before addressing the implant operation, and any risk factors such as diabetes or smoking habit should be considered. An operation plan will be made after studying the implant site using radiographic support, such as endoral radiographs and orthopantomography, and the CT, which allows a three-dimensional analysis of the bone volumes. It is, in fact, essential to assess the amount of residual bone and the relationship with other important anatomical structures such as the maxillary sinus floor, nasal fossae, and inferior alveolar nerve.
How does the operation take place?

Undergoing an implant operation means undergoing a surgical intervention in which missing teeth are replaced with titanium roots inserted into the bone. The implants can support single teeth, groups of teeth, or modified Toronto prostheses. In our practice, implant operations take place in operating rooms entirely dedicated to this activity. The first phase is represented by a detailed analysis of the patient’s needs, general health status, and bone and gum health status through traditional radiographic and volumetric diagnostics (TAC-DENTALSCAN and CONE BEAM). Once the general picture has been defined, the most appropriate strategy for problem resolution can be chosen, and we can move to the operational implant phase. The second phase is surgical. Titanium implants are inserted and gum tissue is sutured to fully cover the implants. During the intervention, to put the patient at ease, it is possible to choose to use conscious sedation and hypnosis. The third phase, always surgical, takes place after a healing period of 2 to 6 months to allow osseointegration of the implants. In this case, the implants are freed from the gums by inserting healing screws that will then be replaced by pins that, protruding from the gums, act as stubs, and on which the crowns will be screwed or cemented.

Can all dental practices perform implants?

Yes, all practices can perform implants, but few dentists achieve an excellent result. The Dentisti Vignato Studio has a decade of experience in implantology and is equipped with two operating rooms entirely dedicated to this activity. The guarantee of success is due to the exclusive choice of scientifically reliable materials, the presence of a prepared team, and the use of operating rooms to operate in total sterility. Today, implantology is a small miracle because new materials integrate perfectly with the patient’s tissues, stimulating bone growth and allowing functional and aesthetic rehabilitation like natural teeth.

How can a missing tooth be replaced without damaging adjacent healthy teeth?

By resorting to an implant that will prevent its antagonist tooth from protruding and adjacent teeth from migrating, thus altering chewing.

When should an implant be chosen instead of a bridge?

The choice should be made by consulting the dentist, who will evaluate the specific situation of the patient. Generally, if the teeth near the one to be replaced have not undergone interventions and are intact, it is advisable to insert an implant, avoiding compromising them. If the adjacent teeth have already undergone substantial interventions, the bridge that allows the damaged crowns to be preserved is more suitable.

Can everyone use implants? Is there an age limit for their insertion?

Anyone with a completed bone growth and in good health can get implants.

Can diabetics get implants?

Diabetes mellitus is an important risk factor only if the patient is constantly unbalanced.
Those under therapy can easily face the positioning intervention of implants. It is advisable to perform the treatment in the morning, right after breakfast and with the glycemia under control.
It is essential that, after the intervention, health conditions remain good.

How long does it take to insert an implant?

It is a a simple intervention which usually takes an hour.
Being a little traumatic type of intervention, recovery is fast and has no consequences. It is therefore important to follow some pre- and post-surgical rules.
Stitches are removed during the regular check-up after 7 days.
Implants inserted by the transmucosal way, technique applied only in certain limited situations, do not need stitches because the gum is not surgically cut, but pierced together with the bone, allowing an even faster recovery.

What is the average life span of implants?

There is no limit! It all depends on the precision and cleaning of the product, periodic check-ups, domestic oral hygiene and the dental hygienist who is treating you.

Can implants be rejected?

Materials used in the production of implants are highly environmentally friendly and allow to avoid cases of rejection.
However, it can happen that implants do not integrate in the bone, thus simulating a rejection. Reasons depend on the insertion phase of the implant, the sterility degree of the environment in which we operate and the quality of the dental prosthesis used.

Is it possible to insert an implant right after a tooth has been extracted

Yes, it is. This technique is defined post-extractive. In such cases, we use implants with specific spirals able to attach to the wall with the space left by the extraction.

Are crowns screwed or cemented to implants?

In the Vignato Dental Clinic, crowns and bridges are always screwed to implants.
The reason is simple: they are easy to remove and clean.
In some cases, however, anterior teeth must be cemented to implants.

Can I insert implants if I have little bone?

Yes, you can. In the upper maxillary tooth, we use a technique called sinus increase.
In the mandibular crest we can perform bone grafts or split crests consisting in a specific guided bone fracture.

Can smoke influence the duration of implants?

Yes, smoke can significantly increase the chances of early loss of implants. It is therefore advisable to reduce smoke and take good care of your oral hygiene.

What are immediate load implants?

Immediate loading implantology is a widely spread technique which enables to reach an immediate functional and aesthetic rehabilitation by inserting a temporary prosthesis right after inserting the implant.
In general, in order to carry out immediate load implantology, it is necessary that preliminary X-rays allow it, even if it is confirmed only on the occasion of the surgery.
Immediate loading depends on various factors such as: bone quantity and quality, quantity of soft tissues and the implant position which should immediately show a good primary stability.

What is guided implant surgery?

Guided surgery is a method to plan surgery with the use of a software. It allows to insert endosseous implants in dental arches in a little invasive and fast way and in just one session.
The program uses accurate surgical guides and enables us to insert implants exactly in the desired position, without cutting the gum to see the bone.
Moreover, the chance to plan the entire procedure allows us to plan and perform a fixed prosthesis independently from the surgical intervention.
It is therefore possible to simultaneously insert it in the implant.

What are mini-implants?

They are traditional implants with a reduced high and a greater length.
They are used where the lack of bone does not enable to insert implants of normal dimensions. Their duration in time can be less certain than the one of a normal implant.
